What is Associative Abbreviation?
Just an alliterative term I came up with, while studying for my Bio 109 final, that describes the relatively amusing way I often name browser bookmarks and folders, generally those related to animes. For instance, my bookmarks to absolutely legal viewing websites.
It's easier to explain what I mean by this term by examples, so it's convenient that the rest of this page is dedicated to providing such examples.
Some of these may not fit the "Asociative" and/or "Abbreviation" parts of this page's title. I'd apologize for that, but I'm feeling rude right now, so I think I'll instead say that if you've any complaints on the matter, you oughta stick 'em up your association! Ahaha!
"Current Shows" Bookmarks Folder → Peso
Current → Currency → Peso is a denomination of currency.
Kaguya Sama: Love is War → Lar
Love is War → Lar
Lucky Star → Sonata
The blue haired girl's name is Konata, which rhymes with Sonata.
Place to Place → Placement
No explanation required.
Daily Lives of High School Boys → Serbia
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya → Haruhill
Haru from the titular girl's name, and hill from the title of the Gorillaz song, "On Melancholy Hill."
Kill Me Baby → Kobbler
Baby → Toddler → Cobbler → Kobbler, for the sake of the starting with the same letter as Kill.
Toradora → Porter
Toradora → Door → The Porter answers the door in Hamlet, though not before he's had his say.
Alternatively: Toradora → Doratora
This was what I'd named the bookmark prior to Porter. Honestly, no idea how I came up with this one.
Blend S → SNOOP DOG
Azumanga Daioh → OSAKA
Squid Girl → Sangwoo
Squid Girl → Squid Games, a series whose best character was Sangwoo, who as far as I can remember did nothing wrong.
Spy x Family → Spamly
Spy x Family → Spamly
Puella Magi Madoka Magica → Madoker
If you think about it, Madoka and The Joker really aren't all that different...
Madoka Magica Side Story → Madaker
I just changed one of the letters from the aforementioned Madoker.
Nichijou: My Ordinary Life → Mordyl
My Ordinary Life → Mordyl, with the y from My making its way in there too.
Kiniro Mosaic → Alcat
Always knew the series as "Kiniro Mosaic," however it was listed as "KINMOZA!" on the legitimate viewing site. Plenty of my abbreviations are done simply by concatenating parts of the show's title, (e.g. Lar and Spamly,) so I thought to myself "No way, it's already concatenated!?"
Already Concatenated → Alcat
Neon Genesis Evangelion → Evan
Named after Evan Gelion, the long lost brother of the protagonist Shinji Gelion, who the latter spends much of the series searching for.
K-ON! → Jumpman
Uhhhhhh. I'll get back to you on this one.
Haven't even gotten around to watching K-ON! yet.
OH! I GOT IT!
K-ON! → "It's on like Donkey Kong!" → Player character in the original Donkey Kong was not quite Mario, but rather Jumpman.
Obviously!
Joshiraku → Josh or Yoshi
Pretty self-explanatory.
Girls' Last Tour → Lourge
Girls' Last Tour → Lourge, with the trailing ge derived from the G at the start of the title, I think.
Initially was to abbreviate it the simpler "Gour," but Gour was already the name of my bookmarks folder for browser games. Details below.
Browser Game Bookmarks Folder → Gour
Browser Games → Gamer Hour → Gour
"Gamer Hour" being the awesome name for my custom deck I made when I tried an online card game called "Eternal" ages ago. It's been my go-to deck name ever since. (Other good deck names: "Gamer Minute" and "Gamer Second.")
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End → Kentucker
Frieren → Frieden from Pokémon Clover, who is a fast food themed chicken → Kentucky Fried Chicken → Kentucker, with an -er for good measure. E.g. Osaker, Madoker, y'know.
For reference, below is an image of Frieden from Pokémon Clover.
"Finished Shows" Bookmarks Folder → Fnished
You'll never guess how I came up with this one.
